Mobile Site

I’ve been getting a lot of questions regarding the disappearance of the mobile version of the site. For some reason a lot of people surfing on their computer or laptop kept getting the mobile version without the ability to turn it off. I have no idea why because I get the mobile version when I surf the site with my phone and the regular version when I surf the site with my computer.

Because the amount of complaints I was getting I decided to turn the mobile version off for now. I would like to get a mobile version custom built and started to set aside some funds for it but I need like $600 so it might take a while to get there. For now, you will just have to enjoy the full version of the site!

  1. Niklas,

Maybe with wordpress.com you would, but not with wordpress.org – and they have a few free mobile plugins that you can choose from as well.

BTW, I think you’d be doing well if you got a mobile site designed and developed for $600… Who’s that with??

    Cheers,
    Andy

  2. I was using a free mobile plugin, it just started acting up out of nowhere. Possibly due to the new wordpress version.

Yeah, $600 isn’t bad at all. Its just a guy who knows what he is doing but needs work to build a portfolio.

  3. Why not just make available a cname like m.boobieblog.com and enable the mobile version just for that?

  4. Joe, it sounds like the main problem was incorrectly detecting mobile devices. Hopefully his new guy will have some better detection in place.

  5. I was one of the desktop users that had the mobile site load without choosing the option, and I’ll be honest it just took 3-4 refreshes and it would load the site proper. I just figured it may be an issue and seeing as I love this site I should post it in the comments section.

To be clear it never stuck on mobile, but would load initially and then go back to normal, but if it ends up being an improved mobile site then I guess it’s for the better!

    Cheers, and good luck Niklas

Also, I love the new logo!

  6. @Andy, yes, I think I got that. What I meant was to disable detection and ask users that use mobile devices to go to m.boobieblog.com instead of www.
Anyway, maybe that will be asking too much from some users. Good luck with the fix, Niklas. Great site.

  7. @ Biff – no worries.. you weren’t the only one. I got maybe 15-20 complaints total which means there are probably many more who just didn’t bother sending an e-mail.

@Video 1 – I actually used the free version of wptouch so I’m not sure getting the pro version would really fix the issue. Do they answer support questions if you have a license?

  8. Niklas,

If a user is surfing with a Netbook (Win 7 Starter), or just using Opera, they may get the mobile version (it doesn’t happen on Linux or Mac).
You can’t disable it if you disable cookies, which is MS newest policy to try to secure their OS.
