Well, no but I have other sources of income as well. I felt these people just wanted a payout rather than go to court so I didn’t really think they had a case, lawyer fees are expensive though so it still racked up quite a bill.
I’m not sure how they tracked me down to be honest.
Well my site was not registered through an anonymous service back in the day, so it was easy to track me down. Normally your provider shouldn’t give out your contact details just because some lawyer is asking questions. That (at least in my country) would take a judge or at least a police inquiry.
May I ask where your site is hosted? I’m searching for a new provider and the boobie blog server seems to be pretty stable and speedy.
Niklas, websiteoutlook dot com used to show your full name and address, not just your server address or hosting site. It’s probably fairly easy to find the information if it’s been cached. I imagine there are various ways to find the address of a site owner.
@ Thomas – I’m not on a virtual server but dedicated so and it costs $499 / month. I don’t really know how their plans compare to others when it comes to price but for me they have excellent support, haven’t had any downtime and the site is always loading fast. To me this is what matters more than price because I’ve been on cheaper hosts but the hassle of downtime and waiting for support isn’t worth it.
I assume you run the other blogs (booty source etc.) under the same server? $500 per month certainly is a hefty price tag. The webmasters I know who even need such servers usually run sites with heavy traffic and server load – i.E. big forums with thousands of active users or browser games.
Unfortunately their three server configs on the web site come without a price tag.
May I ask what cheaper hosts you would not recommend? I’m searching for a host and want to avoid the hassle you described.
Yeah, all the sites are hosted on the same server. It’s expensive but with the traffic I get every day and how smooth it runs, its well worth it. Downtime will cost you a lot more than a higher hosting bill in the end.
I’ve been using a dedicated server for so long I really couldn’t tell you who to avoid. I have heard good things about http://www.peakhost.com but never used them myself.
