Pigs Fly and Playboy Cancels Nudity!

Playboy no nudity

Playboy magazine had decided to stop publishing naked women on their pages. No more nude celebs. No more centerfolds. Just articles and editorials. This is a move to become more mainstream, which is odd if you ask me because I feel nudity is more mainstream than ever! I honestly don’t care that much though because I haven’t read a Playboy magazine in a long time and as far as I know their website Playboy Plus is going to keep pumping out naked hotties.

Even when it comes to celebs I’m not concerned because it used to be that when a celeb wanted to pose nude they would pose in Playboy but nowadays they seem to choose to get naked in fashion mags or put out a sex tape via Vivid so we got that covered. Just seems like an odd choice to boost their sales. The first issue of the “new” Playboy will be out in February next year.

You can read their official statement here.

Playboy? Is that some sorta counter culture cutting age mag from the 60’s?

  2. Answerman says:

So they decided to put themselves out of business the hard way. Good job, jackasses.

Simple: The price they pay to models became FAR superior to the price men decide to pay to see the models in question naked. To sum up: Magazine sold revenues < Models Salaries. And Playboy is so 90s also…

  4. IvanLeTerrible says:

Such a shame. Playboy did a gret job with some recent booby models like Emily Agnes/Shawn and Leanna Decker. Guess they paid too much money to their models, like is stated above. Most playboy models were like minor celebs, like Jenny McCarthy and Anna Nicole Smith.

Regardless, it’s still an icon…like Coke in a glass bottle.

There was something thrilling about peeking at it when you were a kid or finding a hidden stash somewhere.

So it is a little sad to see it go.

That said, I feel the recent playmates were kind of drab and boring…very plastic and artificial looking. Imo, the best playmates were from the 70s and early 80s.

Even if the salary to the models became too high, the revenue lost from the people that buy the magazines because of the nudity should, as said, put them out of business regardless. They could just go pure amateurs, pay them less and skip the celebrities and high demand models. That way they get the nudity for the horny subscribers and keep the costs lower

There is no way model salaries are the cause for this. First of all, the models aren’t on the Playboy payroll. They get paid a one time fee per shoot. With the kind of operation Playboy is, those fees are a drop in the bucket.

I bet this has more to do with the entire magazine industry going down AND the entire porn industry going down at the same time. Nudity is not the commodity it used to be. I can see it on my small scale as well. I’ve never had more traffic to my sites and I’ve never made less money off of it.

  8. Emil says:

Their playmates have been getting worse by the year, dull C cups and smaller, I don’t bother checking now!

  9. Michael says:

I’m in the same boat with my sites. Ever since 2007 when the porn tubes went into full force, making money in porn became harder.

Today it’s all about amateur content that you can get for free on the tubes. No one wants to see overly produced photo shoots or movies with bad acting. Guys want to see real girls that you see on the street get fucked. With the tubes you’ve got plenty of amateur couples willing to put their videos out there for all to see all for free.

Playboy helped make porn mainstream which in the end wound up being their downfall. Supply and demand my friends. We need to bring back the prudish ways of the 50’s then Playboy will be relevant again.

  10. Joe says:

Yes, let’s bring back rampant racism, sexism, class warfare, anti-intellectualism, xenophobia, and general discourse for progressiveness so 50 guys can sell porn more.

Great fucking idea, seriously, nobel prize for this guy above me.

Hate to say it, but as a 24 year subscriber, following on the 20+ years my father collected (late 60’s to mid-80s), I’ve become increasing disenchanted with the magazine over the past decade (really, 15 or so years). The model selection process veered from “the girl next door” to industry created…..bottle blonde, absurdly fake tits, airbrushed to the Nth degree…..fake looking in general. I rarely even open the magazine when it comes anymore, as the issues have become progressively more disappointing. The ONLY reason I even kept buying this long was to maintain continuity in my collection….as well as an homage to my dad. This was pretty much the end for me, as it’s just not worth even maintaining the illusion of relevance anymore. Granted, much of this is related to the print industry losing out to internet content in general, but Playboy really lost its way….and it’s core customer base…..years ago!

    Tsk, tsk . . . See? Should’ve made Elizabeth Ostrander Playmate of the Year . . . ♥

Shame since they do have a knack for finding hot girls. Like another poster said Emily Agnes/Shawn, Leanna Decker, Sara Jean Underwood, and very recently Alyssa Arce are all hot models that these guys brought us. Regardless of how accessible porn is, nudity is still sells whether it’s fashion blogs or Game of Thrones, it’s still profitable. Playboy’s pictorials were stagnant from being boring and overly airbrushed to the point of making everything look fake.
